Here’s part two of of my day on the trails last weekend. I was doing my FCT treatment so I had to be outdoors all day, avoiding EMFs as much as possible.
On Sunday, after running and having brunch with UnitedLA I had a couple of options:
- I could relax, sit under a tree, and read a book.
- I could take a hike to the Hollywood Sign.
Since I just finished running 10.5 miles with the running group, the logical thing to do would be to relax under a tree with a book. I don’t know what came over me… I decided to go take a hike!
![According to Google Maps, the Hollywood Sign is just over 4 miles away. No big deal... right?](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/img_0515.jpg?w=748&h=561)
![It was so much easier running down these hills a couple of hours ago! At least the views made the climb worth it!](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/hike-1.png?w=748&h=748)
![More hills... but somewhere along the way I chose the wrong trail and ended up getting lost.](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/hike-2.png?w=748&h=748)
Yeah… Google Maps wasn’t very helpful out on the trails to the Hollywood Sign. Thankfully, I met two other hikers who had lost their way to the Hollywood Sign and we decided to make it a team effort to find the right path. I needed company and they needed water… Luckily, I had an extra bottle filled with water and Nuun for them to share.

![This part of the trail just seemed to go on forever! But it was made interesting by the horse tours that we encountered and the dude who picked up a snake from the trail.](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/hike-3.png?w=748&h=748)
Finally, we turned a corner, looked up, and saw the Hollywood Sign!
![This is as close as we could get without trespassing. I might save that for another trip when my legs are still fresh. ;)](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/img_0582.jpg?w=748&h=561)
![It was such a relief to finally reach the sign with my hiking buddies, Grace & Alex.](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/img_0583.jpg?w=748&h=561)
![The girls were so proud of their accomplishment that they asked to borrow my selfie stick to commemorate the moment. :)](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/img_0585.jpg?w=748&h=561)
I was not looking forward to walking all the way back to my car from here. I had already added an extra two miles to my hike when I got lost. Thankfully, Alexa & Grace agreed to drive me back to my car from Griffith Observatory where they had parked. They probably saved my life… Lol.
![The 2-3 mile walk to the Observatory was a little anticlimactic after finally seeing the sign. It was also very hot at this time of the day. I found a can of coconut water in my pack and shared it with my hiking buddies.](http://meinthebalance.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/hike-4.png?w=748&h=748)
Although I got lost, I still had a blast. Was I tired? Of course I was! But reaching my goal and making new friends along the way made everything worthwhile. It’s a lot like life: sometimes we make mistakes and get off course. But your attitude really does make a huge difference. I was open to the adventure and I wasn’t going to give up and go home without reaching my goal. Plus, it really does help when you find people along the way who are on a similar journey. You can help, support and encourage one another each step of the way.
I can’t help but look back at these pictures and smile. Last Sunday was a good day. :)
