Our last night at Key Issues Institute was a memorable one. Since we were teachers from all over the United States (and one from Jamaica), we were instructed to bring a gift that represents our geographic location.IMG_7412Here is a photo of 4/5 of the teachers from California.IMG_7414

I was lucky enough to receive a jar of homemade apricot jam for a teacher in Utah! Yum! The perfect gift for a foodie like me! IMG_7415
My gift was a perfect representation of Southern California.  Kelly, from Ohio, thought so too! She loves the beach and totally loved the mini-surfboard plaque. IMG_7417

After the gift exchange, we boarded the bus for an evening to explore nearby Breckinridge. Our sponsoring companies even provided each of us $20 spending money! Thank you, Alcoa!IMG_7418 IMG_7423

A group of us stopped for some crepes at Crepes Á La Cart. Thanks for the recommendation, Emily! It was a bit of a wait, but well worth it. IMG_7424 IMG_7426 IMG_7432 IMG_7435 IMG_7439

After dinner, we did a some souvenir shopping. I spent most of the evening with my friends Jackie and Renee. We had a good time despite the rain. IMG_7443 IMG_7444 IMG_7449 IMG_7450 IMG_7451 IMG_7453

We even stumbled upon our friend, Darren, who invited us to sample his dish from Rasta Pasta– a fusion of Jamaican and Italian food. It was a flavor explosion!IMG_7447IMG_7446
After we left Darren to enjoy the rest of his dinner, the three of us set out in search of the Breckinridge Brewery and Pub. With the help of Google Maps on my iPhone, we arrived at our destination. IMG_7461

The place was packed but we were able to find seats at the bar. IMG_7456
So, who goes to a brewery and only drinks iced tea? This guy! IMG_7454
Cheers! IMG_7457
We made sure to leave with enough time to walk back to the bus but still be able to take in the sights and visit a spice & tea shop along the way. IMG_7476 IMG_7480IMG_7464IMG_7466

This was definitely an unforgettable night and a great way to end our week at Key Issues Institute! Thank you to Keystone Science School and my sponsor, Alcoa, form this amazing week!
