Live Well San Diego 5K – Recap

My first race of the weekend was the Live Well SD 5k. My vegan IG/FB friend, Carly, invited me to run this with her and fiancé. Since I didn’t sign up for the RnRSD 5k, I thought this would be a fun shake out run for the RnRSD 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.b2a

Maria and I arrived at Liberty Station early so I could pick up my race packet. Liberty Station is the old Naval Training Center (NTC) where my dad used to teach when I was a little kid. In fact, I used to live across the street from here, in Navy housing back when I was a kid in the late 1970s.

About 15 minutes before race time, we were gathered around the stage for a warm up. We were led to do some hip hop aerobics… It was fun but felt like a stand alone workout! Haha!

After exchanging a few texts, I finally met up with Carly at the start line. LiveWellsd5k

Prior to this race, my best 5k race time was a 26:31 from back in 2013. I was feeling pretty good and I was going back and forth in my mind if I wanted to take this one easy or to push myself. I decided to go for it!IMG_9726

I PR’d! I PR’d by almost three minutes! It wasn’t easy… actually, that last 3/4 mile was tough trying to keep my pace. I think I actually felt my adrenal glands hurting near the end. (I’ve been more in tune to my organs since doing FCT).

After the race, we went had brunch at Sol Cal Cafe, a vegan restaurant in Downtown SD. My long time Twitter/IG friend Sara (@tortillasara) met us there.

I was in heaven! There were so many gluten free options there, too! I went for the Lettuce Cup Tacos with a side of potato salad.SolCal

A new PR and delicious vegan food with friends… What a great way to spend a Saturday morning in San Diego!
