In February, Veronica (@duncancreative), asked if I’d be interested in promoting the Girls on the Run, Orange County 5k on my social media accounts. She is a board member of the organization and she offered me a free race entry in exchange for publicity.

It was great to finally get to meet Veronica in person after interacting on social media for the past 2 or 3 years.
Without hesitation, I agreed. I shared info about the race on FB, Twitter, and IG. I even invited the members of the No Meat Athlete OC Running Group. The theme for the event was “Be Your Own Superhero.”
If you’re not familiar with Girls on the Run, it is an national organization that empowers girls through running. Here is their mission statement:
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Ultimately, I brought in three runners that I know of. Pamela (a No Meat Athlete) and two of my buddies. My friends and I were more than excited to dress up for the event.
So, Spiderman (Julian) is an accomplished sprinter who is on hiatus this year due to injury. Captain America, Jason, is a new runner. And I’m still recovering from a bruised left foot. Needless to say, neither of us were looking to PR at this 5K. We decided early on to take it easy and just enjoy the fellowship along the way.
This event was a ton of fun! Cool people, costumes, and supporting a great organization… YES, sign me up for next year! I hope to make next year a family affair and have Maria and the kids run or walk the 5k with me.
